217 cm x 109 cm
A very decorative tribal antique rug, woven in the Kasak region of the Caucasus on Early 20th century,
Dated AH 1.328 (Year 1.910), with a nice balanced palette. On the blue field, five and a half red medallions are placed,
one of them bearing the date the weaving was made. The red color shows beautiful shade variations.
The border system is formed by the interesting eight pointed stars main guard, framed by two minor borders with
traditional “Greek- like” guard. This piece features a very restrained geometrical design, but we find on de upper
left section, four animal legs lacking the body, the type of improvisation that happens often on these tribal folk art creations.
Wool pile knotted on wool foundation. A few knot rows missing on both ends. Some wear. Slight localized fading.
Both ends secured. Low pile. Still fair condition for its age.
