Afshar Boteh rug, First quarter 20th century.

250 cm x 164 cm

This rug gives the impression of genuine tribal rugs of naïve design, though the palette has saturated colors that contrast beautifully on the ivory field, and that stand out particularly in the eight pointed stars on the primary border. The geometrized boteh show at their base a group of lines as if they were roots. Between the main motifs, the field is packed with small tribal motifs, that curiously include in the upper section, on the sides next to the guards, half stars characteristic of Luri pieces.
Fair condition, even medium to low pile all around, some foundation visible as shown in the pics. This rug was published in the book “ Rugs & Art”, Hali PL, London 2017, Plate 114, Page 192.
