A very attractive and decorative tribal antique rug, woven in the Karapalkakstan region in northwest Uzbekistan,
on the first quarter of the 20th century, with an unusual palette of warm shades.
On the deep burgundy field two rows, each with of six characteristic guls (Central Asia “elephant foot” medallions).
These guls are divided in four sections, each containing the mythical two headed horned quadruped that is a traditional
feature on the rare Karapalkak rugs. In the center of the guls, four arrows leads our view to the very heart of the motif.
Wool pile knotted on wool foundation. May also include goat and camel hair. A few knot rows missing on the upper end. Some repairs.
Sides new rebound. Both ends secured. Haigh thick pile, Fair condition for its age.
